Andhra Pradesh: 2 dead in Chief Minister YSR Jagan Reddy’s public rally in separate incidents, probe on

Two people lost their lives in separate incidents at an election meeting addressed by YSR Congress Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at Medarametla near Addanki in Bapatla district on Sunday.

One person, identified as Murali Krishna (35) was a municipal worker and died due to sudden cardiac arrest, police said. Krishna died by the time the ambulance reached the hospital.

Meanwhile, the other person who was boarding a bus, fell underneath and died on the spot.

A case is yet to be registered and the police are investigating the matter.

There were allegations that a stampede broke out at the massive political meeting. Police, however, dismissed the claims and said had there been a stampede, police personnel stationed in the galleries would have been deployed to control it, and no such incident occurred, news agency PTI reported.

Earlier in the day, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) claimed that liquor was distributed to ensure attendance at YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s public meeting in Addanki.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP shared a video that showed several men seated inside a bus while holding liquor bottles.

Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP claimed that more than 15 lakh people attended the public meeting named ‘Siddham’ (ready).
