BJP MLA accuses TMC MP and Bengali actor Dev of corruption in home assembly seat

West Bengal BJP MLA of Kharagpur Hiran Chatterjee has alleged ongoing corruption in the Ghatal Lok Sabha seat by its Trinamool Congress MP and star actor Dev. His statements came as the sitting TMC MP resigned from three state government committees on February 5.

Speaking to India Today TV, Chatterjee stated that a viral audio clip of a TMC leader from Ghatal named Shankar Doloi claims that Dev has been involved in corruption.

“I have always said that Dev is involved in corruption. Now the audio clip of a TMC leader from Ghatal named Shankar Doloi is viral, where he claims that Dev took a cut of 30 per cent from him. He said that he even informed Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, but nothing happened,” Chatterjee told India Today TV.

Chatterjee also claimed that Dev had taken money from Enamul Haque, an accused in a cattle smuggling case investigated by the CBI, and used it for his production.

“Before joining politics, Dev, Nusrat, and even Sayoni were good, honest people, but they have changed. They are working with thieves, hence they have turned like them,” said Chatterjee.

He also reacted to news reports that Dev was being approached by senior BJP leaders to switch sides ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Chatterjee said his stance on the alleged corruption of the star would not change unless the probe agencies gave Dev a clean chit.

Deepak Adhikari, popularly known as Dev, a Bengali cine star and Trinamool Congress MP from Ghatal, submitted his abrupt resignation from three state government committees in his constituency, giving rise to conjectures on Saturday.

In resignation letters addressed to the district magistrate, Dev stepped down as the ‘Vice-Chairman of Birsingha Development Authority,’ ‘Chairman of Rogi Kalyan Samity – Ghatal SD Hospital,’ and President of ‘Ghatal Rabindra Satabarshiki Maha Vidyalaya.’ He, however, did not cite or assign any reason for the move.

Dev contested the Ghatal Lok Sabha seat first in 2014 and won the seat for TMC again in 2019.
