Taking a swipe at the BJP, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal said that the central government would have sent central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) even after Lord Ram if he existed in this era, forcing him to join the saffron party or go to jail.
“I was thinking that if Lord Ram was in this era today, then they [BJP] would have sent the ED and the CBI to his house, and would have kept guns and asked, ‘Son, are you coming to the BJP, or will you go to jail?’,” Kejriwal said while speaking in the Delhi assembly on Saturday.
The Aam Aadmi Party supremo’s comments came as the tug-of-war between Kejriwal and the Enforcement Directorate continues, with the Delhi Chief Minister continuing to skip summonses by the central agency.
Kejriwal further said, “While the AAP spearheads initiatives to enhance government institutions, provide essential services, and facilitate pilgrimages for the elderly, the BJP’s approach leans towards obstructing the endeavours of opposition governments through institutions like the ED and CBI.”
While discussing the budget, Kejriwal remembered former Finance Minister Manish Sisodia, who is currently in jail in the liquor policy case, and said he hopes Sisodia will present next year’s budget.
“We are discussing the budget, and today, on the tenth budget, we are remembering Manish Sisodia. Before this, Manish Sisodia had presented 9 budgets in the assembly, and I hope that he presents next year’s budget,” the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, the BJP shot back by criticising Kejriwal for taking Lord Ram’s name for political reasons, saying it hurts the sentiments of crores of devotees.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said it is regrettable that AAP leaders repeatedly use Lord Ram’s name to gain sympathy.
“Kejriwal should know that every time he takes Lord Ram’s name for political reasons, like he did while talking about the ED notices to him, he hurts the sentiments of crores of voters who are devotees of Lord Ram,” Sachdeva said.
On Kejriwal’s remarks about Sisodia, Sachdeva said that the AAP convenor was trying to “false hope”.
