Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs on Wednesday staged a protest outside the Telangana Assembly alleging that the Congress government was attempting to “stifle their voices by not letting them speak inside the House and outside at the Assembly’s media point”.

The MLAs were led by former minister Harish Rao. The BRS MLAs alleged that they were not allowed to speak during the Assembly session. The MLAs also alleged that after they staged a walk-out, they were prevented from entering the media point.

The BRS MLAs said security officials told them that orders were given to them to not allow access when Assembly sessions were underway.

The MLAs staged a walk-out after objecting to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks about former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

When BRS MLA Kadiam Srihari suggested immediate repairs to the Medigadda barrage, CM Reddy criticised the absence of KCR in the Assembly and allegedly used derogatory remarks against him.

The BRS MLAs protested in the well of the House against CM Reddy’s remarks and then staged a walk out.

Sharing a video of the moment when the MLAs were denied entry to the media point in the Assembly premises on X, Harish Rao said, “Is it democratic to block BRS MLAs who are going to speak at the assembly media point? There is no rule that MLAs should not speak at the media point while the Assembly is in progress.”

Calling it “a conspiracy” by the Congress to “silence the opposition”, he said in the post, “They don’t give a chance to speak inside the assembly…They won’t give permission to talk to the media outside the assembly too?”
