Couple arrested in Assam as cops solve ‘love triangle’ murder in 5-star hotel

The Assam Police have arrested a couple, hours after they allegedly murdered a man in a five-star hotel in Guwahati on Monday. Both the accused and the victim were engaged in a ‘love triangle’.

A 42-year-old car dealer from Pune, Sandip Kambli, was allegedly killed by a couple — a 25-year-old woman named Anjali Shaw from Kolkata and her lover, Bikash Shaw.

Here is how the police solved the case within hours and arrested the suspects, just before they were about to fly to Kolkata:

The woman, Anjali Shaw, worked in a restaurant at Kolkata Airport. Sandip Kambli had developed an intimate relationship with Shaw and had been pressuring her to marry him.

Shaw, who already had a boyfriend named Vikash Shaw, informed him about Kambli’s advances and the intimate photographs taken by Sandip. Concerned about the potential repercussions of these images, the pair devised a plan to confront Kambli and retrieve the photos.

According to police, the victim belonged to Pune, and the woman accused of his murder had recently cut all ties with him.

“The woman ended the relationship with him, but he became possessive and kept pursuing her. The woman already had an affair with a man called Vikash Shaw,” said Diganta Borah, Guwahati Police Commissioner.

Sandip and Anjali decided to meet in Guwahati, where he had booked a room at a hotel for both of them. Vikash also booked a separate room at the same hotel, but Kambli had no clue.

At around 2-3 pm, Vikash then confronted Kambli, and a physical fight erupted between them that left Kambli unconscious and injured. In a state of panic, Vikash and his girlfriend Anjali fled the scene.

“Both Anjali and Vikash wanted to get rid of Sandip. Accordingly, they planned to meet him in Guwahati and all three of them arrived at a hotel. Anjali came with the victim and Vikash came separately. At around 2:30 pm, there was some scuffle between Vikash and the victim. The couple wanted to get the victim’s mobile phone, which contained some intimate photographs of Anjali and Sandip,” the police official said.

“During the scuffle, Sandip sustained some injuries and collapsed. He later died,” the cop added.

The hotel staff promptly notified the authorities, leading to a swift police response. The police swung into action and reviewed CCTV footage, guest lists, and airport passenger manifests and located the duo.

They arrested Vikash and Anjali near Azara at around 6:30 pm, just hours before the suspects’ flight to Kolkata at 9:15 pm.

The case remains under investigation as authorities piece together the events leading up to the altercation and assess any potential charges against the involved parties.
