AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) has sought the resignation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and his son and state minister Udayanidhi Stalin over alleged links with Jaffar Sadiq, a Tamil film producer and former DMK leader who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Board (NCB) in a Rs 2,000 drug trafficking case.
In a post on X, the former Chief Minister had posted images of Sadiq with Stalin, Udayanidhi Stalin, state Education Minister Anbil Mahesh and DMK MP Kanimozhi.
Palaniswami said Sadiq, who was an organiser of a DMK district team, had smuggled 3,500 kg of raw materials for drug production for three years.
“There have been reports that Zafar Sadiq has funded the DMK and its affiliates,” he said in the post.
“Even when the police force was under his control, Jaffar Sadiq, who was involved in drug smuggling, was not caught and on top of that, he was given party recognition”, he said.
The DMK had recently expelled the Tamil film producer after his name and links to the drug trafficking network were mentioned by the NCB.
The AIADMK general secretary stressed that the Chief Minister and his son should “take moral responsibility and resign immediately”.
Palaniswami also said that he met the state Governor and apprised the latter of the rampant drug use in the state.
After his arrest on Saturday, Sadiq allegedly told the NCB that he gave Rs 7 lakh to Udhayanidhi Stalin as funds to help during the flood last year, while the remaining Rs 2 lakh was given as funds for the DMK, sources told India Today TV.
NCB said it is believed that Sadiq was operating a drug syndicate which sent 45 consignments over the past three years to various countries, containing approximately 3,500 kg of pseudoephedrine.
The probe agency is currently investigating if the money that he offered to Udayanidhi Stalin was proceeds from the drug trafficking racket.
Sadiq was on the run after the NCB conducted raids in connection to the case in Delhi last month. Before he was arrested, he had travelled from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
Also in February, three people connected to the case were arrested in Delhi as part of a joint operation conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Delhi Police’s Special Cell.
