Tamil Nadu: Migrant worker attacked over suspicion of being kidnapper in Thiruvallur

A migrant worker was attacked in Parikapatu village in Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu on Saturday after a mob suspected him of being a kidnapper.

The man was walking through the village and was talking to some children on the road. However, rumours of his being a kidnapper spread across the village, following which a crowd surrounded him.

He was attacked by the mob and sustained injuries to his face and shoulder. He was subsequently locked up inside a temple, and the mob called the police.

Upon investigation, it was found that the man was attacked based on rumours of kidnapping which were circulating on social media in the area.

He has been admitted to a hospital and further investigation is on, police said. This is the second such incident in Tamil Nadu in two weeks.

In the first incident, which took place on February 19 in Chennai, a 25-year-old transgender person was tied to a lamp-post, stripped, and thrashed by a mob over suspicion of being a kidnapper.

The person was returning after having a meal at an eatery near Pallavaram area in the city, when the mob attacked.
