The Umbrella Academy is an adaptation of the comic book by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, and has become one of the most acclaimed superhero series. The first season of the story of superpowered siblings who try to work together despite differences was one of Netflix’s most-watched series in 2019.
The creators of the show have confirmed that season 4 of the tale of the dysfunctional superheroes will be the last. Find out when it will appear on Netflix and what it will be about.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 potential release date
So far, the exact release date of the new instalment of the series is unknown. However, Netflix has confirmed that season 4 will arrive in 2024.
Season 1 debuted in February 2019, season 2 in July 2020 and season 3 in June 2022, so we predict that the final season may appear on Netflix in the spring/summer of 2024. It will consist of 6 episodes.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 plot
Netflix hasn’t released a synopsis of season 4 or descriptions of individual episodes. What we do know is that the title of the first one is The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want, and the last one is End of the Beginning.
The most crucial plot of season 4 will be an alternate timeline in which the siblings are deprived of their superpowers. To make matters worse, new enemies are emerging and the Hargreeves must figure out how to defeat them whilst simultaneously unraveling the mystery of this alternate universe.
In season 4, we will see the consequences of the universe reset that the Hargreeves did at the end of Season 3. One of the most surprising things to appear in the new episodes is the return of Umbrella Ben, who was teased during a mid-credits scene in season 3.
But he’s not the only one returning from the dead. All indications are that we will also see Abigail, Reginald’s wife, who died many years ago. Explaining these mysteries (as well as a few others) will be quite a challenge, so let’s hope the creators have everything really well planned.

It has also been confirmed that Colm Feore will return in season 4 as Reginald Hargreeves.
Also joining the cast are Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, who will play the characters of Drs. Gene and Jean Thibedeau. Here’s a description on who they are (via Entertainment Weekly):
